As you arrive into the exhibition, we establish an illusion that you are an emigrant passenger by creating a theatre set with audio of voices from the past and a seamless interaction with live interpreters.

Our exhibition is divided into three parts:

 

Departure, Voyage and New World

 

As you enter the exhibition, you arrive on the dock at New Ross Quay.

The scene infront of you is William Graves'ticket office and you overhear Ann Morrissey, a 25 year old housekeeper from Glenmore, paying the balance of her fares. 

With Boarding Pass in hand, you join the throngs of emigrants gathering in the Embarkation area.  Here you get a vision of what the impoverished refugees, who risked everything they had, including their lives, might have felt as they stepped on board a ship setting sail for a dangerous journey to an American life.

 

 

Tour Medieval Museum & Bishop’s Palace

 

Home to a display of Waterford treasures from 18th to the 20th century, Bishop’s Palace gives visitors a wonderful insight into the history of what was, up until the 1750s, Ireland’s second city.

An exquisite architectural jewel, furnished as an elegant 18th-century townhouse, the museum brings 'old' Waterford alive and is the only one in Ireland built on top of medieval buildings, the 13th-century Choristers’ Hall and the 15th-century Mayor’s Wine Vault.

Admire treasures including beautiful Georgian silverware and glassware, the incredible Cloth of Gold vestments, lost for over 120 years after being hidden from Cromwell’s army, the Great Charter Roll viewed by Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Ireland and the only piece of clothing to survive King Henry VIII’s reign, ‘The Cap of Maintenance’.

 

Bishop's Palace is a magnificent Georgian residence and a must-see attraction.

Experience authentic grand 18th cenutury living in this beaufiful Georgian building.

Dont miss the oldest surviving piece of Waterford Crystal in the world dating back to 1789 and the only Bonaparte mourning cross to survive (one of twelve commissioned by Napoleon Bonapartes mother on his death).

On a re-enactor tour, you will be guided through the Palace by Susanna Penrose, the granddaughter of William Penrose and great-grandneice of George Penrose - the men who founded Waterford Glass.

The experience culminates in an immersive 4D film detailing the remarkable history of the glassworks.  The top floor is a self guided exhibition entitled "Other Voices: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives" detailing the social and political developments of Waterford.
